Gather your financial documents. Look into your auto, homeowners, and umbrella policies. If you don’t have an umbrella policy, buy one. Go to your company’s HR department and ask them for a copy of or a link to your benefits package. Make sure you understand what your benefits are. Do you have disability insurance? How much and for how long? How do you access your benefits? Review your health insurance and make sure you understand how it works and what your co-pay and out-of-pocket expenses are. If you have a will and trust, review them and update them if necessary. If you don’t have a will and trust, go online or talk to a competent estate planning attorney to get them created. Lastly, review your life insurance policies.
